Ethan's One-Month Checkup

Ethan had his one-month checkup this morning. He hated every minute of the exam and let us know by screaming as loud as he could the entire time. He got so mad at one point that we got the "silent scream." Aside from a little cold, the doctor said he looks great! He weighed in at 8 lbs, 5 oz and is 20 ¼ inches long. He is at the 25th percentile for weight so he is going to be little like Kaitlin, but he is gaining weight steadily which is a major relief to us since Kaitlin gained weight so slowly. Here is a picture of Kaitlin and Ethan wearing their monkey pajamas. This was taken on Saturday, the day before Ethan's one-month birthday :)

Snow Day!

So, I know my relatives in the midwest don't think anything of a few inches of snow, but for those of us down here in Alabama, snow flurries are a big deal and we actually got 3-4 inches. This was the most snow we have seen in Auburn since we moved here 6 1/2 years ago. It wasn't cold enough to stick to the streets which is just perfect because then we don't have to worry about people who don't know how to drive in the snow driving in the snow. Of course, schools were closed with a mere threat of snow!

Kaitlin loved the snow and wanted to go outside as soon as it started falling, so we went outside in our PJs and tried to catch snowflakes in our mouths. We went back out after getting dressed and Kaitlin had fun running around and putting snowballs in her wheelbarrow while Ethan slept on PopPop.

By mid-afternoon, we had a few inches of snow and decided to go back outside. We went out front because the backyard was too slushy to play in. I tried to teach Kaitlin how to make a snow angel, but she didn't really get it. She had fun running around the front yard and making snowballs while Keven and his dad built a snowman. Ethan wasn't a big fan of the snow, but I put him in the Sleepy Wrap and he was warm and cozy while the rest of us played. Unfortunately, about 30 minutes after we went inside, Keven looked out the window and the snowman had fallen.

Please let us know if you can't see the slideshow. We've been having some issues with them and Keven thinks he has it fixed, but we won't know for sure unless you let us know. Thank you!

Silly Kaitlin

Kaitlin had lots of fun with MomMom and PopPop while they were visiting. We are so glad thy were able to be here before and after Ethan was born. Kaitlin really wouldn't have gotten much attention the first few days he was home if they hadn't been here! Here are some pictures of her antics.

Coming Home

I'm trying to get caught up on the blog a little bit, so I'm going to try to work on the blog a little each day until I do. I only have small increments of time, so it's going to be done gradually. These are about 3 weeks late, but I wanted to document Ethan's homecoming. The family pictures outside the house were actually taken a few days later because of the weather, but they fit with this post so I'm including them here. MomMom and PopPop went all out with signs again, just like they did when Kaitlin was born!

Ethan Meets His Big Sister

Kaitlin has been very excited to meet her baby brother and finally she got to! She didn't seem too happy when she first saw mommy holding him, but warmed up to him quickly. She loves to hold him and talk to him! Kaitlin gave Ethan the adorable stuffed zebra that you see as well as a lion. For some reason the slideshow feature isn't working for me. To see all the pictures, click the link at the bottom of the page.

Elmo's Green Thumb

My mom and I took Kaitlin to see Elmo's Green Thumb. She loved it! She got so excited when all the characters came out. Of course Elmo came out last and she kept looking for him. When he finally came out, she clapped and said "Yay, Elmo" and started talking to him. She had never been to anything like that before, so it was lots of fun! And of course, we brought home an Elmo balloon.

Christmas Pictures

And here are some pictures in case you don't want to watch 23 minutes of video; including Kaitlin's picture with Aubie Claus (the Auburn University mascot dressed like Santa) and with Santa. Kaitlin just loves Aubie and ran right up to him and gave him a big hug.

On Christmas Eve, Kaitlin and I made a gingerbread cake and some Snickerdoodle cookies for Santa. Kaitlin really did a great job with the cookies, but I was already tired and stressed and not feeling great, so I wasn't exactly the model of patience and love during the process. Fortunately, she's only 2 and won't remember it :)

I am very thankful that I was able to spend Christmas day at home with Keven, Kaitlin, Simba, and Harley. Even though our little man isn't due until the end of January, my body seems to be making progress towards delivery a bit early and I was very worried that I would end up in the hospital for Christmas. Fortunately, I am still pregnant. I really don't want him to have a birthday too close to Christmas! We're hoping he'll at least make it to January, but are starting to accept that it might not happen.

We had a very fun day even though it took 7 hours to finally open all of Kaitlin's presents. She wanted to get everything out and play with it as soon as she opened it. Mommy and Daddy just wanted to open all the gifts and then play! Kaitlin seemed to like all of her gifts and was especially excited about her new trampoline - that girl loves to jump! I didn't get pictures of all her gifts because the process was so was broken up, but here are a few. She really got a kick out of us taking pictures of each other! We are looking forward to my mom's visit tomorrow and more presents to open.

The slideshow doesn't seem to be working so here's a link to the album:

Merry Christmas

Here is a 23 minute summary of Christmas morning 2009 in the Yost house. YouTube made me split it into 3 parts. If the videos do not show up embeded, the links (Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3) will take you to them.

Big Changes

Now that our new room is finished, we have finally started getting the house ready for our little man to arrive. The first step was to get the office cleared out so that Kaitlin could move in. PopPop (Keven's dad, Larry) came up last week to paint her new room pink. He finished just in time for her big girl furniture to be delivered on Wednesday and today Kaitlin helped us move most of her stuff from the nursery into her new big girl room and she is sleeping in it for the first time! She was very excited! So far, she is still in the bed and has not cried once so hopefully this transition will be much smoother than the crib to toddler bed transition. Here is a picture of her just before going to bed:

Next step: nursery.
