The New Room

Our house renovations are nearing completion! We are sooooo ready to be finished and have our house back to "normal." We are getting the outside of the house painted now and then there are a few more finishing touches to be done out back. The inside work is done, so now it's up to us to make it look pretty! Here are some pictures of the floors and the new room.

In this goofy picture of Kaitlin, you can see what the old floors looked like. They were in really bad shape!

Tearing up the old floors was a dusty process, so they put up this lovely plastic between the kitchen and great room and the kitchen/dining room to keep the dust out of the rest of the house. While we appreciated not having to clean dust out of everything, it did make things quite chaotic for a couple of days. As you can see, the kitchen table was in the great room and the refrigerator was in the dining room. We also moved everything off the kitchen counters and put it on the dining room table. In order to get to our room, Keven and I had to go outside on the patio and back in through the new room. I'm so glad that Kaitlin didn't wake up in the middle of the night that night; I'm sure I would have locked myself out!

This is what the floors looked like after they tore up the old ones. When I first walked in the room, I thought the old floors were still there because the concrete slab/glue took on so much of the color of the floors. It was so sticky to walk on that you had to keep moving or your feet would get stuck!

The new floors in the kitchen...

And the laundry room (it was ugly green linoleum)...

And the new room!

It's not quite furnished yet, but furniture has been ordered and is on the way. There is going to be a desk (which is in the box on the floor) on the left wall and a bench under the windows on the right wall. We want to keep the back windows clear as much as we can so we're going to use baskets for toys. I'm still trying to decide which basket I like best. The one on the left will match the furniture really well, but I like that the one on the right brings in some other color. I was thinking I would make some bright colored liners for the baskets, but Keven said he doesn't like the liner so we'll see.

Pumpkin Patch

We headed out to the Pumpkin Patch in Lochapoka on Saturday to pick out a pumpkin. I thought Kaitlin would have fun climbing the hay bale playground, but she didn't seem real interested. Keven climbed up with her and I took some pictures. Her favorite part was throwing corn kernels at mommy - thanks Kev! Much like last year, Kaitlin really liked playing in the corn and we had to drag her away to pick out a pumpkin! Once we got to the pumpkin patch, all she wanted to do was go back to the corn. We let her pick a tiny white pumpkin and she was so proud of it! She carried it all the way back to the corn and then it was forgotten until we had to leave. I think Kaitlin would have enjoyed herself more if I hadn't been so worried about getting cute pictures and had put long pants and sneakers on her; she didn't really like walking in the tall grass with sandals on.

?????

Construction postings just aren't complete without a picture of the Port-a-Potty by the mailbox!

A Work in Progress

Here are some pictures of our new patio being stamped. Keven was really disappointed that he wasn't able to see how they did it so I took some pictures for him. It's a pretty neat process. First, they poured the concrete and smoothed it out. Then they sprinkled some powder over it to give it color. Finally, they used tiles to stamp the design on. They even made some animals with the leftover concrete. After two days, they come back and wash off the powder and put a sealer on it. We can't wait to see the finished product! Poor Keven has only seen the pictures because they had to cover it with plastic to protect it from today's rain!

Almost there!

Well, our construction project is nearing completion! I have been remiss in posting pictures, so I thought I should get these up before it's done. I left town for a few days on September 23, but before I left I was able to see our new door!! No more plywood - woohoo!!

When I got home from my trip, the sheet rock had been finished. With the new door in, I was finally able to get far enough back to take some pictures of the inside of the room.

This week, the painter has been here working and this afternoon, our new patio was poured! We are so excited! I will post some pictures of the patio later (it won't be completely finished until Thursday or Friday when they come back to wash it and seal it).
