Caught Smiling!

Our "little man" Ethan is becoming less grumpy everyday (thank goodness) and if you're lucky you might even catch him smiling.

Things are so much different with this second child. Someone asked me when Ethan was five weeks old if he had started smiling yet and my honest answer was "I don't know." It really made me realize that I had been so busy with Kaitlin and trying to get a little something done that I forgot to look at Ethan and talk to him. So now, when a rare moment comes along that he is awake and not grumpy, I talk to him and play with him. He seems to be less grumpy now that he's getting some more positive attention :)

Content

So, today was the second day this week that Ethan has made a big fat liar out of me. I keep telling people what a grumpy baby he is and then he decides to be happy. Now I'm not complaining, a happy baby is much more fun than a grumpy one, just surprised. This morning, I gave him a bath and he didn't make a peep the entire time, even when I opened his diaper. Then, I took him to the doctor and he didn't cry the entire time!! I undressed him, put him on the scale, and changed his diaper; the nurse took his temperature and the doctor examined him all without a sound. Here's a picture of him looking at himself in the mirror:

And this is how things usually are:

Awwww!

Yes, I know you're not supposed to let babies sleep on their tummies or on the boppy pillow, but how can I disturb him? Poor little guy has been so congested and yesterday I had to carry him around all afternoon because it was the only way he could sleep. I just can't bear to wake him up, but I am checking on him constantly!

Ethan's One-Month Checkup

Ethan had his one-month checkup this morning. He hated every minute of the exam and let us know by screaming as loud as he could the entire time. He got so mad at one point that we got the "silent scream." Aside from a little cold, the doctor said he looks great! He weighed in at 8 lbs, 5 oz and is 20 ¼ inches long. He is at the 25th percentile for weight so he is going to be little like Kaitlin, but he is gaining weight steadily which is a major relief to us since Kaitlin gained weight so slowly. Here is a picture of Kaitlin and Ethan wearing their monkey pajamas. This was taken on Saturday, the day before Ethan's one-month birthday :)

Snow Day!

So, I know my relatives in the midwest don't think anything of a few inches of snow, but for those of us down here in Alabama, snow flurries are a big deal and we actually got 3-4 inches. This was the most snow we have seen in Auburn since we moved here 6 1/2 years ago. It wasn't cold enough to stick to the streets which is just perfect because then we don't have to worry about people who don't know how to drive in the snow driving in the snow. Of course, schools were closed with a mere threat of snow!

Kaitlin loved the snow and wanted to go outside as soon as it started falling, so we went outside in our PJs and tried to catch snowflakes in our mouths. We went back out after getting dressed and Kaitlin had fun running around and putting snowballs in her wheelbarrow while Ethan slept on PopPop.

By mid-afternoon, we had a few inches of snow and decided to go back outside. We went out front because the backyard was too slushy to play in. I tried to teach Kaitlin how to make a snow angel, but she didn't really get it. She had fun running around the front yard and making snowballs while Keven and his dad built a snowman. Ethan wasn't a big fan of the snow, but I put him in the Sleepy Wrap and he was warm and cozy while the rest of us played. Unfortunately, about 30 minutes after we went inside, Keven looked out the window and the snowman had fallen.

Please let us know if you can't see the slideshow. We've been having some issues with them and Keven thinks he has it fixed, but we won't know for sure unless you let us know. Thank you!

Silly Kaitlin

Kaitlin had lots of fun with MomMom and PopPop while they were visiting. We are so glad thy were able to be here before and after Ethan was born. Kaitlin really wouldn't have gotten much attention the first few days he was home if they hadn't been here! Here are some pictures of her antics.

Coming Home

I'm trying to get caught up on the blog a little bit, so I'm going to try to work on the blog a little each day until I do. I only have small increments of time, so it's going to be done gradually. These are about 3 weeks late, but I wanted to document Ethan's homecoming. The family pictures outside the house were actually taken a few days later because of the weather, but they fit with this post so I'm including them here. MomMom and PopPop went all out with signs again, just like they did when Kaitlin was born!

Ethan Meets His Big Sister

Kaitlin has been very excited to meet her baby brother and finally she got to! She didn't seem too happy when she first saw mommy holding him, but warmed up to him quickly. She loves to hold him and talk to him! Kaitlin gave Ethan the adorable stuffed zebra that you see as well as a lion. For some reason the slideshow feature isn't working for me. Elmo's Green Thumb

My mom and I took Kaitlin to see Elmo's Green Thumb. She loved it! She got so excited when all the characters came out. Of course Elmo came out last and she kept looking for him. When he finally came out, she clapped and said "Yay, Elmo" and started talking to him. She had never been to anything like that before, so it was lots of fun! And of course, we brought home an Elmo balloon.
